Week 1:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/fashion-is-finally-figuring-out-diversity--in-ways-that-actually-matter/2017/09/06/a16333a6-88f0-11e7-a94f-3139abce39f5_story.html?utm_term=.66ca247f9f9e

This article talks about the positive movement of clothing for women. It talks about how the advancement of clothing has been more suited towards a larger variety of people as of recently. Clothing is being created for a larger variety of different ethnicities, and it is also becoming more suiting towards plus sized women and transgenders. This is a very positive development for our society because clothing is how we express ourselves and make our first impression.

Week 2:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/sep/19/manchester-united-racial-stereotyping-romelu-lukaku-song

This article talks about fans at soccer games, but most importantly Manchester United fans. Some of these fans created chants about the striker, Romelu Lukaku. It talks about how they use racial stereotypes in there chants and how that is not ok. I somewhat agree with this article; however i disagree with this specific case. The chant itself is not referring to his race, they just say insane terms of endearment for their favorite player. Also, it talks about how giving a compliment isn't a compliment if it is also a stereotype. I disagree with this. I have commend my Asian friends for their intelligence before, not because hey are asian, but because they have been successful in school and work.

Week 3:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/state-senate-candidate-introduce-women-rights-agenda-article-1.3627953

This article talks about Ross Barkan, a journalist running for senate as a democrat against Senator Martin Golden. Barkan wants to introduce a women's rights agenda dealing with harassment in the workplace. He motto is "If you see something, say something". Having a strong man in senate focused on dealing with harassment could bring about a lot of good change.

Week 4:
https://www.mykawartha.com/news-story/7586553-video-violence-breaks-out-at-anti-racism-rally-in-peterborough/

This article and video describe the violence that occurred during the anti-racism rally in Peterborough. During the rally, a man who the protesters believed to be supporting white supremacy walked into Confederation Square. The man was almost immediately attacked. This caused the police to have to step in and the violence grew to a saddening point. Before this even occurred, a group of protesters heard of a nearby group of white supremacists, and they went on a search for them, attempting to start violence. For me it is hard to side on either side in this dispute, because even though I very much disagree with White Nationalists and what they stand for, the protesters purposefully sought out violence and I don't agree with that either.

Week 5:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/12/02/trump-honors-rosa-parkss-protest-against-racism-but-continues-to-criticize-nfl-players/?utm_term=.55b2d9969932

This article talks about Donald Trump's recent tweet honoring Rosa Parks for her protests during the civil rights movement. With that, the article goes on to question why he still criticizes nfl players for their protests. I would have to say I disagree with the article. First off, I don't believe that the NFL players protests are anywhere near as brave or important as Rosa Parks' bus protest. I also believe that they shouldn't use their football team as a platform for what they are doing. They sign a contract to work for a team, then use its popularity to push their own agenda. I'm not even close to saying all modern day protests are bad, I just believe that they these players are going about it the wrong way and protesting the wrong things.

Week 6:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/meghan-markle-engagement-prince-harry-exposes-quiet-racism-n825516

This article talks about a mixed woman, Meghan Markle getting engaged to Prince Harry, and the subtle racism as the UK. It talks about how racism isn't addressed nearly as much as it is in the United States, but it still persists behind closed doors. Prince Harry has been fighting the media for his soon to be wife for quite some time now. He house pointed out many published pieces that contain racism, sexism or both focused around Markle. This is horrible, but it is good to see that Prince Harry is able to bring all of this to the limelight.

Week 7:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/carolyn-hax-she-thinks-her-fiances-racism-seems-like-a-pretty-trivial-thing/2017/11/30/ce2e418c-d17a-11e7-9d3a-bcbe2af58c3a_story.html?utm_term=.5224bf2f70c2

This article displays a letter written by Carolyn Hax about her husband. She believes that her husbands racism is a trivial thing because he has seen a lot as a police officer. The author of the article points out the idiocy in this statement, saying "If you think you're superior by birth to an entire race of people, what is significant?" Hopefully Hax reads this article and learns something from it.
Week 8:
http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/08/us/air-force-academy-racist-message-trnd/index.html

This article talks about the outcome of an issue that occurred at the Air Force Academy Preparatory School. A racist slur was found written over the desks of five African American cadet's desks. This caused an uproar at the school and many people were pointing fingers. This new article talks about the surprising outcome, which was that another African American cadet was the one to write the racist slur. It is strange and horrible to hear cases like this, when people are disparaging their own race and culture.

Week 9:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/parenting/baby/breastfeeding/99426886/breastfeeding-should-not-be-forced-on-women

This article talks about breastfeeding. The author believes it is wrong to make women sign a consent form for formula instead of breastfeeding. I completely disagree with this article. Breastfeeding isn't nearly as much about women's rights as some people are saying, except the ability to breastfeed in public. Not saying women shouldn't have an opinion on it, but breastfeeding is about the health of our babies. Breastfeeding provides babies with all of the nutrients that they are supposed to have and it comes from a natural source. Feeding infants artificial formula could cause many health issues down the road that we don't know about.

Week 10:
http://metro.co.uk/2017/12/03/the-simpsons-insist-upsetting-racism-claims-are-a-lot-to-digest-as-show-re-thinks-apu-character-7127740/

This article discusses the claims that the character Apu is a racist portrayal, and should be changed. The voice actor states that it was not their intention to upset people and that he is sorry for it. I agree with the claims, however, this show is a parody and nearly every character is parody of a social or racial group in real life. Many of the characters have the ability to offend people for a purpose.

Week 11:
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/42785-why-redneck-revolt-says-deal-with-racism-first-then-economics

This article talks about "Identity Politics" and two differing opinions about it. One says that economics is the real problem, and other things will fall into place when that is fixed. The other opinion says that identity is the most important, and identity will always be part of politics. I disagree with both of these opinions. First off, economics is what allows our nation to run, but doesn't completely control many issues in our lives. I believe that Identity politics should not exist. Racism, sexism, and everything else are issues that should be resolved through societal advancement, not through laws and regulations. It nearly all has to do with how people are raised. An example is that the majority of children do not see color, until the idea of racism is provided to them.

Week 12:
https://newsone.com/3762630/san-francisco-fire-academy-probe-racism-black-trainees/

This article talks about an investigation in the San Francisco Fire Academy. It mostly just describes the allegations and that the other cadets are denying the claims. It is hard for me to have an opinion on this because the verdict hasn't come out; however, if this is occurring it definitely needs to be stopped.

Week 13:
https://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2017-12-01/supreme-courts-cake-case-pits-gay-rights-versus-christian-faith

This article describes the supreme court 'Cake Case' which deals with the long battle between gay rights and religion. A Christian man who owned a San Francisco cake shop politely denied making a gay couple a cake for their wedding. This led to a spiral of events that led to the case being brought to the supreme court. I hope that the gay couple wins the battle because they shouldn't be denied anything for their sexuality.

Week 14:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/25/world/asia/india-gay-rights-supreme-court.html

This article talks about gay rights in India, and a recent victory for the lgbtq community there. The Indian supreme court recently ruled that privacy was a constitutional right, and that sexual orientation is an essential attribute to privacy. The article displays the happy faces of thousands of people at the Gay Pride Parade in Delhi, that took place soon after this ruling. Hopefully they can make more and more advancements like this in the near future.
